Job Description

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, preparing journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and assisting with financial reporting. This position is ideal for someone looking to build a strong foundation in accounting while contributing to day-to-day operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries, account adjustments, and accruals.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of key balance sheet accounts (bank, AP/AR, prepaid, accruals, etc.).
  • Assist with month-end close, ensuring deadlines are met and reporting is accurate.
  • Support AP/AR workflows as needed, including invoice coding and payment review.
  • Maintain accurate records of financial transactions and support audit preparation.
  • Assist with financial statement preparation under GAAP guidelines.
  • Support variance analysis, schedules, and ad hoc reporting for leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and company accounting policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience
  • Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with accounting software (NetSuite, SAP, Sage, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and standard accounting practices.
  • High attention to detail, analytical thinking, and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced office environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience preparing journal entries and assisting with audits.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting is valued, not required.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with operations, finance, and administrative teams.
